| We've all seen the ads where martial arts schools promise to teach Focus, Concentration, and Self-control. But even more importantly, for children especially, martial arts can help teach perseverance and determination. It does by helping children set small, manageable goals. Each new technique mastered, each belt level achieved represents another small victory along their journey. And each belt level in itself has many specific opportunities to teach organization and perseverance. It teaches them that you cannot skip steps and still get the best quality results. Stationary techniques lead to moving techniques, then spinning techniques, and so on.
As for perseverance, as long as you stay with the martial arts, you WILL receive your black belt. And true martial artists know this is not the final destination, but only the first stop along the journey of wellness and self-discovery that is this great sport!
